One of the most critical tasks the government wants consumers to complete this year is linking the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with their Aadhaar number. Though the Central Board of Direct Taxes, or CBDT, has repeatedly postponed the deadline for linking Aadhaar and PAN, the government has made it clear that fulfillment is required. If you do not link your PAN to Aadhaar by the deadline, your PAN will become inactive, and you will be subject to a number of penalties. For one thing, the government has inserted 234H to the Income Tax Act of 1961, which is a new section. If the linking of PAN is not completed by the deadline, the authorities can impose a penalty on the individual.
This means that if you link your PAN and Aadhaar beyond the deadline, the government may levy a fine at the time of linking, according to the CBDT. As a result, linking PAN Aadhar before March 31, 2022, is mandatory, while the fine cannot exceed Rs 1,000.
