THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS HAS RELEASED A NEW AMENDMENT NAMED AS CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT

The Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Amendment Regulations, 2022 are released to update the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This amendment introduces a new mechanism known as the Conformity Assessment Scheme for the issuance of a licence to use or apply the Standard Mark for products and articles that meet the prescribed conditions.

The manufacturer may be issued a licence under this Scheme to demonstrate the compatibility of goods or articles, subsequently referred to as the products, to defined standards, which may be supplied in the appropriate standard or essential requirements specified for the product, or both. If the product is not intended to be made on a continuous basis, the Bureau may issue a certificate of conformity instead of a licence, in which case the manufacturer is not permitted to use the Standard Mark. In the event of a licence, each product, packaging, or both must bear the Standard Mark, as stated in Annexure – I. The licence number and any other reference to the required requirement must be displayed on the Standard Mark, which must be as specified in the licence.

If the Standard Mark cannot be physically attached to the product or packaging, it must be mentioned on the test certificate. The certificate of conformity number must be marked on the product, package, or both in the case of a certificate of conformity. A copy of the conformity certificate must be included with the product.

The licence will be awarded for a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years. The licence may be renewed for a duration of up to six years, with a minimum of three years.
