THE CBDT HAS EXTENDED THE DEADLINE FOR LINKING AADHAAR AND PAN

On the basis of representations received from various stakeholders, the Central Board of Direct Taxes ( CBDT ), as part of its commitment to address the hardship being experienced by various stakeholders as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, has decided to extend timelines for compliance under the Income Tax Act, 1961 in the following cases: 

The deadline for notifying the Income Tax Department of linking the Aadhaar number to PAN, now it has been extended from September 30, 2021, to March 31, 2022. The deadline for completing penalty procedures under the Act has also been pushed back from September 30, 2021, to March 31, 2022.

The time limit for the Adjudicating Authority to issue a notice and impose order under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988 has also been extended until March 31, 2022.
