The Foreigners (Amendment) Order, 2022 has been released by the Ministry of Home Affairs on March 8, 2022, to further revise the Foreigners Order, 1948. A new paragraph 3B has been added as a result of this amendment:
Holding a valid passport or other valid travel documents while in India is required.- While in India, a foreigner must have a valid passport or other valid travel document linked to a passport, as the case may be.
For the purposes of this paragraph, “other valid travel document” means an emergency certificate, a certificate of identity, or any other document issued by or under the authority of a foreign government that meets the requirements set forth in the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950, guidelines issued under the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920 (34 of 1920). In addition, under paragraph 17, any report, application, or information required by this order must be sent electronically to the Registration Officer or civil authority, as the case may be.
The Registration Officer or the civil authority shall, upon receipt of the report, application, or information, verify the authenticity of the report, application, or information, and may if deemed necessary, summon the applicant or informant for personal appearance for the purposes of this paragraph.
